City on Fire

Have you ever heard of the city on fire for almost 50 years? Yes, you read it right. Fifty years and counting! Centralia was once a thriving old town in the state of Pennsylvania but it is now almost a virtual ghost town because of the coal fire that cannot be put out. You will not see the fire from above because it is underground.. It started when they burned their garbage dump. They doused it with water and left thinking the fire is already out. They didn't know that it spread to a nearby abandoned coal mine. The fire has been ongoing for almost 20 years before the people learned about it because the effect was not immediately noticed. Amazing right?
