I received a call from a coworker a few minutes ago that there was a homicide at the motel where we work. While information is sketchy, I probably know more than the media, since I knew the man who lived in the room and the grapevine is ramping up as I type this.
I actually liked the person who rented the room. He would sweep the parking lot even though he wasn’t paid. He was handicapped, and I guess it was all he was able to do, so he did it. It would sometimes take him all day because he would stop and talk to people in the other rooms. He was also too trusting and became friends with people he shouldn’t have, which I can only guess is what brought about his end. I’m not going to say he was an angel because I don’t know the details.
You may think it’s weird that I’m not scared by this news. I will have no problem going into work Monday night, because I know these things happen no matter where you live these days. In addition, it’s because I’m not trusting. I would never let anyone not employed past the lobby glass barrier.
It may sound weird, but for a number of years when I spend any amount of time anywhere I make sure to plan for emergency exits, and I know of five different ways to exit the front desk vicinity in case of fire or scarier scenarios. Only one is a bit difficult because it would mean crawling out a window and dropping ten feet, so that is my last choice! Even at the local grocery stores and Walmart, I know and keep all exits firmly noted just in case. The world isn’t safe anywhere you go anymore. My dad starting painting years ago when he claimed with his favourite saying that it couldn't be difficult! My mam thought she would prove him wrong so bought him a set but turns out he is very good. He has now progressed a bit so does both painting and acrylics.
He had had an exhibition in a pub today with someone else and they were giving a portion to charity. He managed to sell 12 pictures and after the donation he still has a couple of hundred in his pocket.
My dad has Parkinson's so he is now painting more and more as it helps to keep the shakes under control, I am very proud of him.
