Reading this seems like a foolish question, but it is not. People eat for many reasons, not just because they are hungry or that it makes good sense to eat nutritious food.
Often people eat, then stop to think "Why did I do that". There are those who just eat when something is put in front of us, such as a cookie or piece of cake, just from seeing the food. It is there, it looks good, so it is consumed.
There are those who eat because it is in response to emotional pain. People eat when they are upset, trying to "fix" the problem.
Some eat as a reward. How many have that candy, cookie, or piece of cake because they feel they earned it? Or, what about going out for a good steak dinner when there is a celebration?
Some just eat when they are tired or dehydrated.
Regardless of the reasons people eat, there is the tendency to put on extra pounds. If one is on a weight loss or maintenance plan, it is important to ask "Why do you eat?"
